TREND ARLINGTON TENNIS CLUB

OTTAWA MASTERS SKI RACING

Masters alpine ski racing is open to skiers 19 years and older.  The races are for men and women.

Racers are categorized by age and competition background; racers with a recreational skiing background are categorized separately from racers with a competitive racing background.

Racers of all abilities are welcome at any event.

Most of the racing is done weeknights.  Some races occur on weekends and there are a handful of special events throughout the season.



CANADIAN SKI PATROL
Click to visit CANADIAN SKI PATROL website. The Canadian Ski Patrol System (CSPS) - Gatineau Zone recruits ski, snowboard, telemark and Nordic enthusiasts from all walks of life who are interested in volunteering their time to help others.

Their 40-hour first aid course will give you unparalleled training in managing and treating injuries.  You'll also become qualified in CPR and learn to safely move injured skiers from an accident site to the end of a trail or the bottom of a hill.

The CSPS is a not-for-profit organization of over 6000 volunteers across Canada.  They are enthusiastic out-door oriented men and women over the age of 18 who promote safe skiing and boarding and provide top-quality first-aid services to injured skiers and boarders.  They can promise you an opportunity for personal development, awesome skiing and the fellowship and camaraderie of a great bunch of people.  Come for the skiing - stay for the friends!

The National Capital Tennis Association

GLEN CAIRN TENNIS CLUB
Click to visit GLEN CAIRN TENNIS CLUB website. The Kunstadts have been members of the Glen Cairn Tennis Club ever since their arrival in the Ottawa area in 1978.   This is where young Eric and Ronnie have received their first lessons from the tennis legend of the time, Vic Hossack.

The club is run by volunteers.   There are lessons available for adults and children. Every Monday and Thursday nights, there is an organized round robin for all levels of players. The club hosts a number of social events throughout the summer season.   Competitive tennis players have an opportunity to participate in a number of leagues of various levels and for a variety of age groups.

The Glen Cairn Tennis Club is the venue of the now famous Kunstadt Open Tennis Tournament in August.   This tournament attracts some of the best tennis players this area has ever seen.

The club is located in Kanata, south of Hazeldean Rd., and north of Abbeyhill Rd., just off Castlefrank Rd. near the Glen Cairn Library and Pool, in sight of the Jack Charron arena.



CADS NCD

CADS NCD is seeking individuals who would like to assist in the adaptive race program -- race experience or coaching experience is required.   This is and opportunity to ski, have fun and help a child or adult who needs your assistance to ski.   We need volunteers to assist people with a disability.   If you are an intermediate or better skier or advanced boarder, YOU could be the person who makes a difference.

If you, or someone you know, has a disability this program is for you. Disability type or severity does not matter.   An age and experience level, from never skied to racer -- EVERYONE CAN SKI!

BICYCLES FOR HUMANITY

Would you like to send your old bicycle on a new journey to Africa to help empower people with transportation?   The Bicycles for Humanity organization has the solution for you.  They collect used and unwanted bicycles, load them into shipping containers and send them to a developing country.  The container stays in the receiving community and serves as a bicycle workshop.  Bicycles for Humanity also provides training for future bike mechanics in the recipient country.  The bikes provide much needed access to healthcare, education, food, water and employment.

Canadian Ski Museum

SHARE THE ROAD
Click to visit SHARE THE ROAD website. In June 2006, OPP Sgt. Greg Stobbart was hit by a truck as he rode his bike on a rural road. He died as a result of his injuries.   Each year, in memory of her husband, Eleanor McMahon has organized "Greg's Ride" to remember Greg, to remind us all to "share the road" and to raise funds for the cycling coalition she founded and leads.   The ride has now expanded to Ottawa.   Your family can enjoy a scenic ride along the NCC Pathway to the Ottawa River Parkway which on Sunday's is reserved for bikers, walkers, joggers and in-line skaters.   Those who prefer a longer distance will enjoy a 60K or 100K ride along the country roads of Kanata and Carp.

RIPPLE ADVENTURE

Programs run 5-10 weeks in length.   Participants meet once a week and take part in a different adventure activity each week.   Program price includes admission, a lesson and rentals where applicable.  Most adventure activities are adventure sports, but check back for the new Cultural Adventure Mix in Summer 2010 for awesome cultural adventures!   There are over 39 activities offered through 32 different programs in 2010, and they're adding more every day!
