On July 21, the 37-th Annual Preston Street Bike Race took place at (you guessed it) Preston Street in Ottawa.   It is a tradition that Mike Plummer, Kunstadt Sports’ star mechanic is the official mechanic of the race, which is one the major Criterium races in our area.

Many of us showed up to support the greatly talented athletes that show up at these events.   One of them was our own Imad ElGhazal who, in spite of having endured a 24-hour mountain biking race the day before, demonstrated a great form.   We all enthusiastically cheered him on as we are proud of having such accomplished biking ace among us.

The recently launched new line of Kunstadt bikes, is custom-built for us by Raleigh, one of the most experienced bicycle manufacturers in the world.   The “Kunstadt Ottawa” hybrid has been introduced in 2005 and it became an instant success.   Featuring aluminum frame and wheels, suspended seat post, indexable stem and a number of other features, it is quite a bargain at about Can$ 320.   The “Kunstadt Ottawa Sport” hybrid is an upgrade to the Kunstadt Ottawa, presently on special at $ 480.

The “Kunstadt Gatineau” mountain bike is equipped with an aluminum frame, 26” aluminum wheels, mechanical front disk brake, rapid-fire shifting front and rear, well, you get the picture….   And with all this included, it is now on sale for just Can$ 400.   Also in the line-up of Kunstadt bikes are the "Bank Street" commuter bike with 26" aluminum wheels at Can$ 300 and the "Kanata" commuter bike with 700 mm aluminum wheels at Can$ 280.   There are more models than we can possibly list here and there are numerous junior-sized Kunstadt bicycles on display now, as well.

On the weekend of May 23 & 24 2009, the Kunstadt family gang participated in the National Capital Race Weekend.   First it was Monica Kunstadt-Landon who ran the 5 km Saturday MDS Nordion race, together with her husband Jon and their two sons who traveled in comfort in a double Chariot jogger.   They did very well and plan to perhaps do the 10 km race next year.

It was a long day on Sunday for Ron Kunstadt and his race assistant Pete.   Ron, for the first time in his life, decided to run a full marathon.   He may be a bit sore now, but he ran the race in a very respectable time and plans to do it again next year and try to improve his time.   Of course, the Kunstadt clan came to cheer him on.

Mark your calendars to make sure you don't miss this year's Kunstadt Open Tennis Tournament.   Like always, we expect an impressive line-up of high performance players.   There will be refreshments for participants, a party on Saturday August 8 with live music, a barbecue, new tennis balls, and all this is included in the $ 40.00 entry fee.   Results will be posted live right here, on www.kunstadt.com.

The group of Kunstadt riders participating in the RIDEAU LAKES CYCLE TOUR rode together and arrived back at Carleton University happy and thinking about the next year tour.
